Job summary

The Mayor and City Council of Baltimore is seeking an Automotive Mechanic Apprentice to join our city fleet maintenance program. You will diagnose, install, maintain and repair a wide range of automotive, heavy truck, and equipment under supervision in a hands-on environment.

This four-year, state-approved apprenticeship emphasizes on-the-job training and classroom instruction, with work shifts that may include weekends.

Qualifications

• Education: Have graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
• EXPERIENCE: Have one year of automotive experience.
• LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES: Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license.
• This is a four-year apprenticeship program, and a contract is required for the term of the apprenticeship program.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic, installation, maintenance and repair on automotive, heavy truck, heavy equipment and other mechanical equipment.
• Work under close supervision in an automotive repair shop environment.
• Provide on-the-job training and classroom instruction requirements.
