Job summary

City of Baltimore is hiring for an Automotive Mechanic Apprentice in Baltimore. This four-year, state-approved apprenticeship trains incumbents to diagnose, install, maintain and repair automotive, heavy truck and other equipment, with supervision and classroom instruction.

Incumbents work in a repair shop, may include weekend shifts, and must meet education and license requirements. The program provides hands-on training and a contract for the apprenticeship.

Qualifications

• Education: High school graduate or GED; Automotive experience required.
• Experience: One year of automotive experience.
• Equivalency: Vocational/technical program in automotive may substitute for one year of automotive experience.
• Licenses: Valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or equivalent out-of-state license.
• Provisional driver’s license not acceptable.
• This is a four-year apprenticeship program and a contract is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic, installation, maintenance and repair duties on automotive, heavy truck and related equipment.
• Work under close supervision in an automotive repair shop environment.
