Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Transportation, is seeking an Automotive Mechanic to maintain and repair a wide range of vehicles and equipment. You will perform preventive maintenance, diagnose and repair systems, and conduct safety inspections to ensure safe travel statewide.

Responsibilities include field service, documenting repairs, and adhering to environmental practices. A valid PA driver’s license and Class 1 inspection certification are required, with a starting salary

As an Automotive Mechanic for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), you will step into a hands-on role that keeps equipment in top working order. This role centers on maintaining and repairing many kinds of vehicles and equipment to ensure safe and dependable operation. As an Automotive Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:

• Equipment Maintenance:Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on vehicles, construction equipment, and powered tools
• System Repairs:Complete tasks involving engines, cooling systems, suspension, electrical components, fuel systems, brakes, steering, and driveline systems
• Safety Inspections:Carry out state safety and emissions inspections and complete required documentation
• Field Service:Provide emergency road service and complete repairs outside the garage when necessary
• Record Management:Maintain equipment records and assist with parts identification and documentation
• Environmental Practices:Follow environmental protection requirements and participate in required training

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Travel, overtime, and shift work are required. Work hours are subject to change based upon seasonal requirements and operational needs.
• Telework:You will not have the option to telework in this position
• Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $49,819.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or completion of an approved apprenticeship; or
• Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.

Special Requirements

• This position requires possession of a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.
• You must be a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Certified Inspection Mechanic for Class 1 vehicles.

Additional Requirements

• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
