Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Manufacturing Software Test Engineer (MSTE) to lead and optimize production test systems across vehicle assembly. You will work with Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, IT, Maintenance, and suppliers to ensure reliable testing that supports quality and throughput goals.

The role emphasizes data-driven decision making, defect prevention, and continuous improvement of electrical testing. It is an onsite, first-shift position with potential off-shift support as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or automotive tech, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience reading electrical schematics and diagnostic info.
  • Experience with or interest in automotive systems and vehicle tech.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams and communicate clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategy and continuous improvement of Production Test Systems across vehicle assembly.
  • Ensure test systems are reliable, production-ready, and aligned with quality goals.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, IT, and supplier partners on issues.
  • Oversee test software changes and governance with manufacturing and quality teams.
  • Analyze test data to identify trends and improve performance.
  • Lead root cause investigations related to test system and vehicle quality.
  • Support training and standardization of testing practices at plants.
  • Communicate tester metrics, risks and improvements to leaders and partners.
  • Promote safe, compliant, and ergonomic testing across operations.
