Automotive Equipment Operator 2 (Excavator Operator)

Join to apply for the Automotive Equipment Operator 2 (Excavator Operator) role at Pinellas County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller.

This is skilled, heavy automotive or equipment operation work in Pinellas County Stormwater Drainage Operations. Employees in this classification operate more complex and specialized equipment, requiring skill and care. Knowledge of NPDES and FDOT regulations is emphasized. Duties involve working to engineering grades, operating heavy equipment, and working independently.

Work location: 22211 US Hwy., 19, Clearwater, FL. Schedule: Tuesday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM.

What Would You Do?

• Assist construction crews with construction activities and manual labor.
• Operate small excavator, backhoe, front end loader, tractors to repair canals and ditches.
• Supervise assigned operators and personnel for safe, efficient work.
• Load/unload heavy equipment and transport to sites.
• Establish grades to specifications, set up barricades and signs.
• Complete timesheets and paperwork.
• Manage equipment and materials across locations.

What Do You Need To Have?

• 6 months experience operating an Excavator; or
• Public Works Academy training certificate; or
• Pinellas County employee equipment certification; or
• Equivalent education, training, or experience.
• Valid Florida Commercial Driver's License 'B'.
• Ability to work various schedules, including emergency situations.
• Obtain and maintain Florida Department of Transportation TTC Intermediate Level Certificate within 6 months.
• Complete required safety and environmental training within 6-12 months.
• Complete OSHA 30-hour Construction Industry training.

Highly Desirable

• Experience with small excavators.
• Erosion Control Certification.
• Valid Florida Commercial Driver's License 'A' and endorsements.
• Operate trucks and small machinery/tools.
• Knowledge of stormwater drainage principles.
