Job summary

Nippon Paint Automotive Americas Inc. (NPAA) seeks an experienced Chemist to assist the Technical Team in meeting customer demands and maintaining NPAA as a market leader in automotive coatings.

The role builds strong customer/supplier relationships and supports training for new hires. The position emphasizes problem solving in coatings chemistry, interaction with internal teams, and participation in new business or internal process improvement opportunities.

Qualifications

• College degree in a science-related field is required.
• 1–2+ years of applicable experience.
• Ability to handle paints and chemicals, including isocyanates, using required PPE.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Desire to learn and improve.
• Basic computer skills (Office, Word, Excel).

Responsibilities

• Prepare and validate lab-scale prototype samples following established procedures.
• Develop and apply automated application techniques where possible.
• Interact with commercial and internal support teams to understand OEM/customer requirements.
• Engage with suppliers to learn industry trends and developments.
• Travel to customer sites to observe product trials.
• Prepare internal reports and drafts for external presentations per schedule.
• Use lab-scale dispersing equipment to prepare prototypes per procedures.
• Coordinate with technical and operations teams to understand coating & manufacturing needs.
• Collaborate with raw material and equipment suppliers on trends and needs.
• Support manufacturing scale-up trials on/off-site.
• Produce internal reports for management review per timeline.
