Job summary

Applied Optoelectronics, Inc. (AOI) is seeking a Production Test Engineer in Sugar Land, TX to design, develop, and maintain automated test software for high-speed optical transceivers (200G/400G/800G).

You will integrate instruments like OSA, power meters, and BER testers, and work with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient production testing. The role requires Python and LabVIEW expertise, the ability to debug systems, and training operators on new procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, optical engineering, computer engineering, or a related discipline.
• 1–3 years of experience in LabVIEW programming and/or Python test automation.
• Experience with test instrumentation (OSA, power meters, source meters, TEC controllers, oscilloscopes, etc.).
• Ability to work independently and lift up to 35 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain automated test software using Python and LabVIEW for optical transceiver testing.
• Integrate and control instruments like OSA, power meters, source meters, BER testers, DCAs, and TEC controllers using VISA, GPIB, RS-232, TCP/IP, and PXI.
• Develop and modify LabVIEW programs to match local test setups and environments.
• Support manufacturing engineers in troubleshooting production line test failures and improve yield.
• Perform system-level debugging for optical, electrical, and thermal tests.
• Create SOPs and training materials; train operators on new test procedures and UIs.
• Collaborate with R&D, QA, PE, IT to align test requirements and automation standards.
• Maintain revision control and documentation of all test programs.
• Travel up to 5% internationally for station deployment, training, or cross-site alignment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
