Job summary

Cooper Standard is hiring an Automation Technician at its Spartanburg, SC plant to maintain and troubleshoot automated systems. You will work with engineering and production teams to optimize processes and ensure equipment reliability.

The role requires PLC, robotics, and control systems knowledge, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to train staff while following safety and ISO standards. You will contribute to lean initiatives and continuous improvement across the line.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in Automation Technology, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience as Automation Technician in manufacturing, automotive preferred.
• Ability to analyze equipment and processes in industrial environments.
• Strong knowledge of PLCs, robotics, and control systems.
• Proficient in reading electrical schematics and technical manuals.
• Willingness and ability to travel as necessary.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, and software issues in automated systems.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize automation processes.
• Maintain automated machinery and control systems.
• Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance on automated equipment.
• Document maintenance activities and keep accurate records of repairs and modifications.
• Train and support production staff on operation of automated systems.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations in all automation activities.
• Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in automation technology.
• Must actively support production and resolve issues to minimize downtime.
• Supports the Quality and Environmental Management Systems.
• Assist with development of specifications, new tools, processes and training procedures.
• Use disciplined problem-solving to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Champion scrap reduction and lean manufacturing principles in area of responsibility.
