Summary
Responsible for leveraging technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and project management abilities to implement, troubleshoot, and maintain advanced automation systems tailored to wood door manufacturing, enhancing production efficiency, precision, and quality in a fast-paced woodworking environment.
Roles and Responsibilities
Ensure all automation and control systems comply with OSHA, UL, and woodworking industry safety standards.
Manage automation projects specific to wood door manufacturing, from design to implementation, ensuring alignment with production timelines.
Integrate automated solutions, including robotic arms, conveyors, and vision systems, into wood door production lines for cutting, shaping, and finishing.
Develop, program, and test control systems for woodworking machinery, such as CNC routers, edge banders, and automated sanding systems.
Monitor performance of CNC machinery and automation systems to meet production targets for wood door quality, dimensional accuracy, and output.
Diagnose and resolve issues with control systems, CNC routers, and automated woodworking equipment to minimize production downtime.
Write, modify, and debug PLC code for woodworking machinery, ensuring seamless operation of automated processes.
Create and maintain detailed documentation, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and PLC code, for wood door manufacturing equipment.
Develop and enforce SOPs for the operation and maintenance of CNC and automated systems used in wood door production.
Provide training and technical support to production and maintenance staff on operating and troubleshooting woodworking automation systems.
Coordinate with vendors and suppliers for procurement of woodworking-specific automation components, such as precision cutting tools and dust collection systems.
Identify and implement process improvements to reduce material waste (e.g., wood, adhesives, finishes) and optimize cycle times in door manufacturing.
Must Haves
Strong organizational and project management skills to oversee multiple automation projects in a wood door manufacturing setting.
Ability to analyze complex automation issues and develop effective solutions for woodworking processes.
Advanced knowledge of CNC machinery, PLC programming, HMI design, and industrial automation specific to woodworking applications.
Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, train staff on woodworking equipment, and document processes clearly.
Meticulous approach to programming and troubleshooting to ensure precision and reliability in wood door production.
Tooling knowledge specific to wood and related materials (e.g., MDF, plywood, veneer, adhesives) used in door manufacturing.
Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Industrial, or Computer Engineering, or equivalent industry experience in woodworking automation.
Certifications in any of the following are a plus: CAP, CCST, PE, PLC Programming, HMI, SCADA, or woodworking-specific automation training.
Physical Demands
Regularly required to stand, handle, grasp, and reach with hands and arms. Frequently required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear.
Requires excellent hand-eye coordination and finger dexterity for precise handling of woodworking tools and automation controls.
Work Environment
Works in a wood door manufacturing environment with moderate to loud noise levels due to woodworking machinery.
Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, sawdust, and wood debris.
May involve exposure to adhesives, finishes, and solvents used in wood door production.
Must be comfortable working around wood dust and debris, with appropriate PPE (e.g., respirators, safety glasses) as required.
