General Plastics & Composites LP is seeking an entry-level Automation Technician to assist with installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of automated systems and equipment. Under direct supervision, you will support mechanical and electrical tasks related to robotics, conveyors, control systems, and sensors.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1–3 years of experience working with CNC machining.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Must have math skills and be able to use handheld measuring tools.
  • Regularly required to stand, reach, and move about the facility.
  • Blueprint reading and interpretation.
  • CNC machine setup and minor program adjustment knowledge.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to maintain accurate production and quality records.
  • Basic troubleshooting and problem-reporting skills.

Responsibilities

  • Debur components and manifolds as needed.
  • Perform minor program edits and offsets under supervision guidance.
  • Maintain production and quality data.
  • Load and unload incoming raw material from conveyors and bins.
  • Inspect parts and accurately complete ITP documentation.
  • Load programs and change fixtures for all part numbers.
  • Communicate any issues with robots or machines immediately to Set-Up Technicians or Leads.
  • Supplement other departmental duties as required.
  • Use quality measuring tools to verify product conformity (micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, height gauges, etc.).
  • Monitor processes using quality tools and follow work instructions, prints, and other documentation.
  • Follow all safety rules and report any safety issues to supervisor.
  • Read and interpret blueprints to plan machine setup and operations.
  • Report maintenance problems to supervisor for prompt attention.
  • Work collaboratively in a team-based environment.
  • Assist other departments as necessary with management approval.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

The Automation Technician 1 follow standard procedures and safety protocols while learning to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals. This position is ideal for individuals with foundational knowledge in automation, electrical systems, or mechatronics, and a strong desire to grow their technical skills in a fast-paced, high-tech environment.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (8–12-hour shifts).
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs (occasionally more with assistance).
  • Manual dexterity to use hand tools, power tools, testing instruments, and small components.
  • Visual acuity to read wiring diagrams, schematics, PLC screens, and technical manuals.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.
  • Work performed in industrial settings such as manufacturing plants, warehouses, production facilities, or processing plants.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, and automated equipment.
  • May be exposed to noise, dust, heat, cold, humidity, vibration, or chemicals depending on facility.
  • Work may involve shift schedules, overtime, weekends, or on-call rotations.
  • Combination of shop floor work and limited office/computer-based tasks (PLC programming, diagnostics, documentation).
  • Frequent interaction with maintenance teams, engineers, and production staff.
