Job summary

General Plastics & Composites LP is seeking an entry-level Machinist I to set up, operate, and maintain basic machine tools to produce precision metal parts. You will work under close supervision, using blueprints and written instructions to ensure accuracy and quality.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual and CNC machines per specifications.
• Read and interpret blueprints and drawings for processes.

• Maintain clean, organized work area and perform preventive maintenance on machines.
• Use measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, protractors, height gauges, depth gauges) accurately.

Job description

The Machinist I is an entry-level position responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining basic machine tools to produce precision metal parts and components according to specifications. Working under close supervision, the Machinist I uses blueprints, technical drawings, and written instructions to ensure accuracy and quality.

This role involves operating manual and/ or CNC machines, performing routine inspections, and adhering to safety and quality standards in a manufacturing environment.

• Adhere to all engineering instruction, standard operation procedures, and all departmental procedures.
• Gain the ability to perform machine set ups on manual lathes, manual mills, CNC lathes, CNC mills, and Waterjet machines for all programs and part types including production and/or engineering parts with moderate to light assistance.
• Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
• Performs preventative maintenance on machines as required per the company P.M. Program.
• Must be able to learn to read and interpret blueprints and drawings for all processes and programs.
• Ability to learn the following:
  • Machine Safety.
• Job orders.
• Standard measuring tools including, but not limited to, Micrometers (O.D. & I.D.), Calipers, Bore Gages, Protractors, Height Gages and Depth Gages.
• Calibration Requirements.
• Familiarity with CNC program knowledge is a plus

Qualifications & Experience:

• Education:
• High school diploma or GED required
• Experience:
• Experience working in a structured production or manufacturing environment (preferred).
• Experience following written and verbal work instructions in English.
• Experience adhering to workplace policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
• Experience working within attendance and punctuality standards in a production setting.
• Experience supporting cross-functional departments as needed (preferred).
• Skills:
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English.
• Basic math skills.
• Ability to use handheld measuring tools accurately.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to stand for extended periods, reach, and move about the facility regularly.
• Ability to remain at workstation and ready to begin work at the start of the shift.
• Ability to remain on the job until the end of the work period or until properly relieved (where required).
• Ability to assist other departments with management approval.
