Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to engineering instruction, SOPs, and all departmental procedures.
  • Perform machine set ups on manual lathes, manual mills, CNC lathes, CNC mills, and Waterjet machines for all programs and part types.
  • Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition and follow safety regulations.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on machines as required per PM program.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and drawings for processes and programs.
  • Knowledge of machine safety, job orders, measurement tools, gage calibration, fixtures, CNC programming (G/M Codes, Mazatrol), and GD&T.

Job description

The machinist 3 is a highly skilled, senior-level position responsible for setting up, operating, and troubleshooting a variety of complex machine tools to produce precision parts and components. This role involves interpreting advanced blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications to ensure high quality production within tight tolerances.

The Machinist 3 may also assist in training junior machinists, lead improvements initiatives, and collaborate with engineering and quality teams to resolve technical issues. A strong understanding of CNC programming, tooling, and materials is essential. This position requires minimal supervision and a high level of craftsmanship, accuracy, and safety awareness.

  • Adhere to all engineering instruction, standard operation procedures, and all departmental procedures.
  • Able to perform machine set ups on manual lathes, manual mills, CNC lathes, CNC mills, and Waterjet machines for all programs and part types including production and/or engineering parts with light to no assistance.
  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on machines as required per the company P.M. Program.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and drawings for all processes and programs.
  • Knowledge of the following elements are expected:
    • Machine Safety.
    • Job orders.
    • Standard measuring tools including, but not limited to, Micrometers (O.D. & I.D.), Calipers, Bore Gages, Protractors, Height Gages, Micro-Height Gages, Molds, Optical Comparator and Depth Gages.
    • Verifying gage calibration.
    • Machine fixturing for setups.
    • Thorough knowledge of CNC programming/languages (G/M Codes and Mazatrol) and thorough knowledge of how to create and edit programs.
    • Thorough knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Education:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience:
  • 7+ years’ experience working with Manual and/or CNC machines.
  • Skills:
  • Follow written and verbal instructions in English.
  • Must have math skills and be able to use handheld measuring tools.

Be punctual for all appointments. In areas where required, each employee is also expected to remain on the job until a replacement is present.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
  • The employee is frequently required to stand for an extended period of time.
  • Walk use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Required to work in a shop environment which may include hot or cold temperatures, humidity, high noise levels and hazardous fluids such as coolants and lubricants.
  • Willing and able to machine and handle a wide variety of materials, including but not limited to, Fiberglass Composites, Plastics, Metals and other Alloys.
