Job summary

Big Think Capital is expanding its technology team and seeking an Automation Specialist to build and maintain workflow automations that power day-to-day operations. The role centers on n8n, connecting Salesforce, Microsoft 365, RingCentral, internal APIs, and AI services.

You will own real workflows from day one, build new automations, maintain existing ones, and troubleshoot issues affecting live processes. Melville, NY commuting is required.

Qualifications

• 2+ year of professional experience in software development or workflow automation.
• Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field — or equivalent hands‑on experience.
• 1+ year of experience working as part of a technical team.
• Working knowledge of REST APIs, webhooks, and JSON data structures.
• Strong debugging instincts and the ability to trace a problem across multiple connected systems.
• Clear written and verbal communication — you will document your own work and explain it to nontechnical stakeholders.
• Detail-oriented, self-directed, and able to prioritize across several active workflows.

Responsibilities

• Build, test, and deploy automation workflows in n8n across the company’s connected systems.
• Maintain and improve existing production workflows, including error handling, retry logic, and performance tuning.
• Monitor workflow executions, investigate failures, and resolve issues before they affect business operations.
• Integrate REST APIs and webhooks, working with JSON payloads, authentication flows, and data transformation.
• Support automations that read from and write to Salesforce, including record updates, field mapping, and data validation.
• Write clear documentation for every workflow you build — purpose, trigger, data flow, and change history.
• Partner with operations, sales, and underwriting teams to identify manual processes worth automating.
• Contribute to AI-assisted automation work, including LLM API calls and agent-driven workflow steps.
• Respond promptly to business-critical automation issues as they arise.

Big Think Capital, the #1 online alternative financing marketplace, is expanding our technology team. We are looking for an Automation Specialist to build and maintain the workflow automations that power our day-to-day operations. This is a hands-on engineering role centered on n8n. Our automation platform runs hundreds of production workflows connecting Salesforce, Microsoft 365, RingCentral, internal APIs, and AI services. You will own real workflows from day one, building new automations, maintaining existing ones, and troubleshooting issues that affect live business processes. The ideal candidate has a technical foundation, at least a year of practical development or automation experience, and genuine curiosity about where AI tooling is heading. You will report to the Director of Automation Engineering and work closely with the EVP of Technology on initiatives that directly affect how the company operates.

About the Role

Preferred Skills

• Familiarity with Salesforce automation (Flows, objects, field‑level configuration).
• Exposure to Zapier, Make, Power Automate, or comparable platforms.
• Experience with Git, Node.js, or Python.
• Understanding of cloud or container‑based deployments (DigitalOcean, AWS, Azure, or Docker).
• Experience collaborating in agile or sprint‑based environments.

Pay range and compensation package

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $60,000.00 – $80,000.00 per year (based on experience)
