Job summary

Omya is seeking an Automation Engineer at the Sylacauga, AL plant to help refine process design and control systems. You will use PLC/SCADA and instrumentation expertise to improve product quality with minimal manual intervention.

You will maintain documentation, coordinate Process Change Requests, and provide on-call troubleshooting for plant automation systems, including PLCs, SCADA, and network hardware.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or computer science.
• 2+ years of automation programming experience.
• Familiarity with PLC/SCADA programming, databases, Visual Basic, networking, servers, MS Office, plant electrical systems and instrumentation.
• CAD experience preferred.
• Able to work independently with potentially hazardous processes.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safe working conditions to achieve a zero lost time injury record.
• Collaborate with engineering and production to refine process design and control systems.
• Lead use of electrical, instrumentation, and process control elements to optimize quality with minimal manual intervention.
• Design systems to collect and present quality control data and production reporting.
• Manage the Process Change Request system and its documentation.
• Maintain PLC, SCADA, and related hardware, plus backups and software.
• Schedule automation maintenance and ensure spare parts availability.
• Provide troubleshooting support to production and maintenance teams.
• Assist RAM Engineering to coordinate projects from design through start-up and cost control.
• Maintain network and electrical drawings documentation; interface with staff and contractors.
