Job summary

SPX Technologies in Madison, AL is seeking a Maintenance and Automation Technician to install, program, troubleshoot, and maintain our automation systems across the facility.

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will work with maintenance, engineering, and production teams to minimize downtime and drive continuous improvement, while upholding safety standards. This role requires hands-on problem solving, knowledge of PLCs, robotics, and electrical schematics.

Qualifications

• Formal or equivalent technical degree; related experience considered.
• 4+ years automation or controls experience in manufacturing.
• Experience programming/diagnosing PLC systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.).
• Experience with robotics (KUKA, ABB, Fanuc, or Yaskawa).
• Knowledge of HMIs, VFDs, and industrial networks; CAD skills helpful.

Responsibilities

• Install, troubleshoot, and repair robotic and automated systems.
• Program, modify, and maintain robotics, PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and networks.
• Diagnose electrical/instrumentation issues with test equipment.
• Lead startup and commissioning of new equipment and projects.
• Maintain control panel docs, schematics, and backups.
• Perform preventive/predictive maintenance on automation systems.
• Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for failures.
• Ensure safety regs compliance with lockout/tagout and standards.
• Collaborate with production and maintenance to optimize uptime.
• Identify and implement continuous improvement to reduce downtime.
• Support plant capital projects and equipment upgrades.
• Maintain inventory of spare parts for controls.
