What we need

Symbotic is seeking an Automation Maintenance Technician II to repair and calibrate our automated and robotic systems, including Automated Adapters, Vertical Lifts, and robotic vehicles. The technician will become the system expert on all mechanical, PLC, electrical, or electronic subsystems and will be responsible for system upkeep and operations of automated adapters interfacing with the Symbotic structure.

What we do

The Automation Maintenance Technician II is part of the Customer Operations team, responsible for managing the daily operations of Symbotic’s robotic material handling system. This team drives operational excellence by partnering with onsite customers to ensure quality, safety, and optimal system performance.

What you’ll do

  1. Perform inspections on systems related to Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems, robotic vehicles, and adapters/lifts.
  2. Lead continuous operation by adjusting, calibrating, repairing, replacing, or modifying system components.
  3. Monitor and process the flow of the storage and retrieval system to maximize throughput.
  4. Troubleshoot robotic vehicle anomalies using schematics, wiring diagrams, and test equipment.
  5. Document all actions, repairs, parts used, and labor in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  6. Communicate effectively about production issues and corrective actions.
  7. Adapt to dynamic environments and changing business needs.
  8. Clean up equipment and remove replaced parts post-repair.
  9. Handle robotic vehicle recovery in the Symbotic Matrix system, including working in restrictive environments.
  10. Perform minor utility work such as machining, cutting steel, and sensor alignment.
  11. Calibrate, troubleshoot, and set up robotic arms.
  12. Maintain cleanliness and adhere to 5S policies.
  13. Perform Cell Operator functions as needed.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.

What you’ll need

  • Associate degree or certification in electronics, automotive, automation, manufacturing, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience with mechanical automation systems or equivalent training.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to follow electro-mechanical diagrams.
  • Ability to operate automated systems.
  • Experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in inspection functions.
  • Ability to work independently following procedures and manuals.

Our Environment

  • Steep stairs to access the structure.
  • Work near high railings and at heights up to 45 feet.
  • Work in varying environmental conditions, including temperatures from 105° to 32°F.
  • Wear proper PPE during construction or hazardous work.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs and move items up to 80 lbs.
  • Stand/walk for 10-12 hours, with frequent reaching, climbing, and balancing.
  • Must adhere to safety protocols, including lockout/tagout and fall protection.
