TekWissen is seeking an Automation Maintenance Technician for a 12-month temporary assignment onsite in Rochester, NY. You will maintain plant automated machinery, perform corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance, troubleshoot control systems, and calibrate equipment in accordance with manufacturer specs and company procedures.

Qualifications

  • Technical degree in Mechatronics, Electronics, Mechanical, Electrical, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • 2+ years experience with automated systems, PLC, or robotics preferred.
  • Ability to read mechanical/electrical diagrams and interpret schematics.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and environmental awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Perform corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance on automated machinery and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, adjust, operate, and calibrate automated equipment and control systems.
  • Perform equipment validation activities as required.
  • Disassemble, repair, replace components, and reassemble mechanical equipment (e.g., extruders, cylinders, pumps, valves, gearboxes).
  • Set up and operate machining equipment to fabricate/repair parts.
  • Identify, correct, and report equipment performance outside standards.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and compliance documentation.
  • Maintain 5S, organization, and tool discipline in work areas.
  • Safeguard tools and report damaged items for replacement.
  • Notify supervisor when external assistance is needed.
  • Support Kaizen, PPI, and 4Dx continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Follow safety and environmental policies; apply LOTO where required.
  • Participate in safety training and hazard reporting.

Summary

Under the supervision of the Assistant Automation Supervisor, the Automation Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining plant automated machinery and equipment in optimal operating condition in accordance with manufacturer specifications and company procedures. The role performs corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance, equipment adjustments and calibration, troubleshooting, validation activities, and continuous improvement initiatives. The technician will work closely with maintenance and external departments while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, environmental compliance, organization, and equipment reliability.

Responsibilities
  • Perform corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance on automated machinery and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, adjust, operate, and calibrate automated equipment and control systems.
  • Perform equipment validation activities as required.
  • Disassemble, repair, replace components, and reassemble mechanical equipment including plastic extruders, cylinders, pumps, valves, and gearboxes.
  • Set up and operate industrial machining equipment, including drill presses, grinders, welders, mills, lathes, and other metalworking tools to fabricate and repair parts.
  • Identify, correct, and report equipment performance that is outside established standards.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, activity failure logs, tool checklists, and preventive maintenance documentation.
  • Maintain proper organization, cleanliness, and 5S standards for work areas, materials, and tools.
  • Safeguard assigned and commonly used tools and report damaged tools for replacement.
  • Notify the supervisor when assistance from external departments is required.
  • Apply continuous improvement practices using Kaizen and PPI tools and participate in PPI activities and the 4 Disciplines of Execution (4Dx).
  • Follow all company safety, environmental, OSHA, and occupational hazard requirements.
  • Apply LOTO procedures and follow appropriate safety controls when performing maintenance activities.
  • Participate in safety and environmental training and weekly safety talks.
  • Identify and report applicable safety and environmental hazards through Hazard IDs and take appropriate corrective measures.
  • Maintain equipment used for environmental operational control and equipment that affects the environmental performance of the Environmental Management System.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate controls for significant environmental aspects within assigned operations.
  • Report activities that may affect environmental performance and implement corrective measures when required.
  • Access electrical panels and authorized restricted areas, including substations, pump rooms, patios, and rooftops, as required.
  • Submit requests for non-routine maintenance work and communicate equipment or maintenance issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Support identification of critical spare parts and maintain equipment reliability to meet maintenance performance objectives.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Technical degree or technical career in Mechatronics, Electronics, Mechanical, Electrical, Electromechanical Technology, or a related field.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with demonstrated relevant experience may be considered.
  • Preferably 2+ years of experience working with automated systems, PLC programming, industrial robotics, or equivalent automation/maintenance experience.
  • Knowledge of PLC programming, including ladder diagrams, function blocks, and structured programming.
  • Experience with HMI programming.
  • Knowledge of industrial automation and control systems, including drives, servo drives, and servo motors.
  • Experience with adjustment, operation, calibration, and fine-tuning of industrial robots.
  • Solid knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic diagrams.
  • Knowledge of ultrasonic sealers is desirable.
  • Proficiency with maintenance and workshop tools, including multimeters, ammeters, micrometers, verniers, precision levels, ohmmeters, drills, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills.
  • Good decision-making and assertive communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with internal and external departments.
  • Strong safety and environmental awareness, including knowledge of OSHA standards and occupational hazards.
  • Ability to support continuous improvement initiatives using Kaizen, PPI, and 4Dx methodologies.
  • Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, reach, kneel, climb ladders, stand for extended periods, and work in confined or restricted spaces.
