Job summary

Utz Quality Foods in Hanover is seeking an Automation Line Operator Lead to oversee automation operations on the Friday–Sunday night shift, supervising Automation Operators and Forklift personnel while ensuring safety and 5S standards. You will coordinate with P3/P4 and RDC teams to address issues on the line and monitor performance metrics.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years in manufacturing or food packaging preferred
• Automation/robotics training is a plus but not required
• Familiar with robotic arms, conveyors, and automated systems
• Basic understanding of alarms, machine interfaces, and troubleshooting
• Attention to detail and ability to follow procedures/schedules
• Strong communication and team-oriented attitude
• Forklift or pallet jack certification
• Familiarity with barcode scanners, vision systems, label printers
• Lean or Six Sigma awareness is a plus
• Knowledge of PLC systems or programming languages is a bonus
• Able to stand/walk 8–12 hours per shift
• Production environment with noise, heat, and moving machinery

Responsibilities

• Ensure safe operation of the Automation area per LOTO and safety protocols
• Supervise and deploy Automation Operators, Jackpot Lane Operators, and Forklift Material Handlers
• Serve as primary contact during shifts to coordinate with P3, P4, and RDC Operations
• Monitor key metrics and track performance improvements
• Move pallets to RDC and ensure end-of-shift completion
• Perform daily equipment checks and routine cleaning
• Maintain 5S standards in the area
• Suggest improvements to case dimensions, fill/count, and pallet configurations
• Log issues and downtime in Redzone and assist with troubleshooting
• Start/stop/reset equipment via HMI and resolve jams quickly
• Maintain good documentation of operator care tasks
• Ensure correct case orientation and stacking per SKU/customer
• Communicate safety, quality, and service improvement opportunities
• Routinely check and restart systems after alarms
• Participate in continuous improvement efforts
