Job summary

Moderna seeks a Principal Systems Engineer, Digital Lab Systems to lead automation across the QC Laboratory, developing high-throughput workflows and integrating data from instruments, LIMS, and enterprise apps. You will deploy automated solutions, mentor engineers, and ensure GLP/GCLP readiness with robust documentation and training.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, computer science, biotechnology, robotics, or related field.
• 8+ years' experience in laboratory automation or robotics.
• Experience with liquid handling systems and automation platforms.
• Experience integrating systems using APIs, databases, or middleware.
• Programming experience in Python, Java, C++, or similar.
• Experience with data structures, database design, and LIMS integration.
• Exposure to AI/ML applications in lab or automation workflows.
• Familiarity with Hamilton VENUS and BiOS platforms.
• Experience in regulated environments (GLP, ISO standards).
• Git version control and Agile methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Lead automation initiatives in QC laboratories across testing and sample management.
• Design, deploy, and optimize automated workflows for QC assays using Hamilton platforms.
• Drive integration of automation solutions and scheduling platforms.
• Translate manual workflows into scalable automated systems for efficiency.
• Provide SME support for automation troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
• Develop data structures, pipelines, and architectures for lab automation.
• Support system integrations via REST APIs, middleware, and web services.
• Contribute to AI-enabled workflows and decision-support capabilities.
• Provide leadership for automated workcell platforms and biobanking systems.
• Ensure regulatory readiness, validation lifecycle, and documentation.
• Interface with vendors for implementation and platform strategy.
• Mentor junior engineers and deliver training to lab personnel.
