Job summary

UPM Adhesive Materials in Dixon, IL, is seeking an Automation Engineer to design, develop, and maintain PLC, HMI, SCADA, drive, and motion control systems for optimized operations.

You will program and troubleshoot Siemens PLCs, lead root-cause analyses, and support commissioning, testing, and validation of new equipment, with lifecycle planning for critical controls. A 2+ year background in automation and a related Bachelor’s degree are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Automation Engineering or related technical discipline.
• Minimum 2 years in industrial automation or related field.
• Experience programming and troubleshooting PLC-based control systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, modify, and maintain PLC, HMI, SCADA, drive, and motion control systems.
• Program and troubleshoot Siemens PLC systems on PROFINET/PROFIBUS networks.
• Lead investigation and resolution of complex automation issues to minimize downtime.
• Develop project scopes, control system designs, implementation plans, and cost estimates.
• Support commissioning, startup, testing, and validation of new equipment.
• Perform root cause analyses and implement corrective actions for recurring issues.
• Develop automation lifecycle plans and modernization strategies for critical controls.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation including drawings and procedures.
