Job summary

SMS group is seeking a Level 1 Control Systems Engineer to design, implement, test, and commission Level 1 control systems for new Pickle Line installations and related projects. You will work within an engineering team to ensure smooth integration with Level 2 teams and project management across global markets.

Travel is required, including Germany for integration testing and Louisiana for commissioning. A background in metals processing and PLCs is essential, with familiarity in Logicad or

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or similar degree.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an engineering role in metals or a similar industry.
• Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers.
• Experience with Logicad and/or Siemens TIA Portal preferred.
• Pickle Line and/or Rolling Mill process knowledge preferred.
• Willing to travel to support the project work. Integration test will be 6 months in Germany, commissioning will be 3-5 years in Louisiana, USA.
• Problem solving skills especially while under time pressure during commissioning.

Responsibilities

• Perform Level 1 control system programming based on function descriptions for equipment.
• Collaborate with project management, mechanical, and Level 2 engineering teams.
• Participate in integration testing of the control system before shipment to the job site.
• Conduct on site commissioning and startup of Level 1 control systems for new plant installations.
• Train customer personnel in maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Service existing systems remotely and on-site interfacing with internal engineers and resources.

Summary

What You’ll Do
