Job summary

CyberCoders is seeking a hands-on Automation/Controls Engineer to design, program, commission PLC/robot systems for manufacturing environments using Allen-Bradley/Rockwell platforms, vision, and CNC interfaces. You will develop HMIs, integrate robots with Roboguide, perform on-site startups, and collaborate with mechanical/electrical teams to ensure safety and uptime.

Some travel to customer sites is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Controls/Mechatronics or related field or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years in industrial automation, PLC programming, and controls engineering.
• Experience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell PLC platforms (RSLogix/Studio 5000) and Ladder Logic.
• Proven experience developing and configuring HMIs/SCADA (FactoryTalk, PanelView or similar).
• Experience with industrial robot integration (Fanuc preferred) and Roboguide.
• Familiarity with vision systems and integrating vision results into control logic.
• Knowledge of CNC interfaces, machine tool controls, and motion systems is a plus.
• Strong troubleshooting and on-site installation skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork across engineering, maintenance, and operations.
• Ability to travel to customer sites for start-up and commissioning.

Responsibilities

Title: Automation/Controls Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Automation Engineer to design, develop, and commission industrial control and automation systems. The role focuses on PLC and HMI programming, controls integration, and field installation to improve production efficiency, quality, and uptime. You will work with cross-functional teams to deliver robust automation solutions using Allen-Bradley/Rockwell platforms, robot controllers, vision systems, and CNC interfaces.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, program, test, and commission PLC systems (primarily Allen-Bradley/Rockwell) to control manufacturing equipment and processes.
• Develop, configure, and maintain HMI/SCADA screens and operator interfaces to provide clear machine status, alarms, and control capabilities.
• Create and troubleshoot ladder logic, function block, and structured text code to implement control strategies and safety interlocks.
• Integrate and program industrial robots (Fanuc and other brands) and simulate cell behavior using tools such as Roboguide.
• Specify, install, and commission vision inspection systems and integrate vision results into PLC logic and production databases.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and production teams to translate automation requirements into reliable system architectures and BOMs.
• Perform on-site installations, wiring reviews, start-ups, and performance tuning to ensure systems meet functional and safety requirements.
• Develop and maintain documentation: control schematics, I/O lists, test procedures, commissioning reports, and user manuals.
• Troubleshoot and resolve automation and controls issues in production environments, performing root-cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives: OEE monitoring, process automation upgrades, and retrofit projects to enhance throughput and reduce downtime.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience in industrial automation, PLC programming, and controls engineering.
• Strong experience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell PLC platforms (RSLogix/Studio 5000) and Ladder Logic programming.
• Proven experience developing and configuring HMIs/SCADA systems (FactoryTalk, PanelView or similar).
• Experience with industrial robot integration (Fanuc preferred) and simulation tools such as Roboguide.
• Familiarity with vision systems (inspection cameras, lighting, image processing) and integrating vision results into control logic.
• Knowledge of CNC interfaces, machine tool controls, and motion systems is a plus.
• Solid understanding of electrical schematics, I/O wiring, and on-site installation practices.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose controls, software, and hardware issues in production settings.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills; comfortable working across engineering, maintenance, and operations teams.
• Ability to travel to customer sites for start-up and commissioning as required.
