Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC is seeking a Manager of Automation and Controls Engineering to own the design, build-out, commissioning, and continuous improvement of automation and electrical systems across Starbase facilities.

You will lead a team of engineers in a high-reliability, fast-paced environment, reviewing P&IDs, control philosophies, and DCS/PLC architectures while scaling the systems with Starship production cadence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 8+ years in automation and controls engineering on industrial power projects.
• 3+ years in people leadership or team management.

Responsibilities

• Own automation and controls scope for all power generation assets from design to commissioning.
• Lead utility-scale electrical power systems including switchgear and protection.
• Direct BOP controls across fuel gas, HVAC, cooling, and ancillary systems.
• Manage utility/process support systems like water treatment and wastewater.
• Build and mentor a team of automation engineers and technicians.
• Review control philosophy docs, I/O lists, and schematics from the team and EPCs.
• Coordinate with internal disciplines, OEMs, and contractors for integrated commissioning.
• Drive standardization of DCS/PLC/SCADA architectures and cybersecurity.
• Provide field commissioning support, loop checks, and reliability improvements.
• Develop SOWs and manage contractor work for power build-out.
