Job summary
Sonoco is seeking an Electrical Controls Engineer to maintain, upgrade, and optimize control and automation systems for the Industrial Products Division. The role collaborates with maintenance, engineering, and operations to improve safety, reliability, and productivity, and to develop modernization plans.
Travel is expected with postings in Hartsville, SC and other locations such as Charlotte, NC, Columbia, SC, Raleigh, NC, and Greenville, SC.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical or chemical engineering (Electrical preferred).
- Experience with PLC programming including ladder logic, function diagrams, and structured text.
Responsibilities
- Act as project lead for automation and control projects.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, maintenance, and contractors to meet scope, budget, and schedule.
- Create documentation for bidding, installation, start-up, and maintenance of control projects.
- Provide commissioning and startup support for controls projects.
- Develop a project funnel for automation and control system upgrades.
- Work with plant process engineers to optimize control system performance.
- Provide direction to maintenance on controls work orders.
- Train maintenance team on automation and control systems.
- Troubleshoot system upsets alongside maintenance.
