Job summary

Socket.dev in Winter Haven, FL seeks an Automation & Controls Engineer to create, design, and manage machine control and safety systems for food processing equipment in a washdown environment. You will design PLC/PCB hardware and software, motor/pneumatic controls, vision systems, wiring, and networking, plus maintain schematics and code. Requires a B.S.

in electrical engineering, 5+ years in PLC/HMI/SCADA/VFD/SQL, and willingness to travel up to 15%. Food processing experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
• Willingness to travel up to 15%
• Food Processing experience is a plus
• 5+ years of programming PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, VFDs, and SQL
• Must be detail-oriented, analytical and computer literate with proven leadership skills
• Knowledge of construction, manufacturing and installation practices/techniques
• Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions/drawings
• Ability to write technical instructions
• Strong presentation skills to customers/vendors/employees
• Must have strong computer skills (Microsoft Office)
• Ability to work with concrete variables in standardized situations
• Valid Driver’s License
• Must have or obtain a passport for international travel

Responsibilities

• Design automation processes for producing high yield and high-quality food products, incorporating company machinery
• Develop concepts to improve machinery and processes
• Communicate with customers and staff on Automation issues affecting yield, quality, throughput, safety, and data systems
• Develop training plans for Automation & Controls technology released for Production
• Support remote customer issues as needed
• Suggest innovations for Sales and Management teams
• Assist in product development with mechanical engineering
• Assist PLC/HMI standardization
• Assist start-ups of newly installed equipment
• Review automation design packages
• Assist Engineering Manager with budgeting for A&C NPD activities
• Assist Supply Chain with electrical component issues
• Suggest and implement machine improvements
• Collaborate with A&C Manager on related items
• Follows safety procedures and safeguards others’ safety
• Provide consultation on process controls for domestic and international directors
• Travel domestically and internationally for service calls
• Provide consultation on Automation issues
• Perform process control evaluations at customer sites
• Assist in designing data files for analysis
• Initiate commissioning of new controls installations
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
