Job summary

SunOpta, Inc. is seeking a Controls Engineer at the Allentown plant to design, program, and support PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems with a focus on Rockwell Automation platforms. You will develop control narratives, FAT/SAT tests, and automation improvements for process, packaging, and utilities.

The role requires strong troubleshooting, PID tuning, and cross-functional teamwork to ensure safety, quality, and reliability in a food/beverage manufacturing environment. Travel up to 10% may apply.

Qualifications

Bachelor's or Associate degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Automation, or related field.
5+ years of industrial automation and controls experience in manufacturing.
Experience with Rockwell Automation platforms (ControlLogix/CompactLogix, FactoryTalk View, Studio 5000).
Proven PLC programming, AOI development, commissioning, and troubleshooting skills.

Responsibilities

Design, program, test, document, and support PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems (Rockwell emphasis).
Develop FAT/SAT procedures for new or modified automation systems.
Maintain control narratives, specifications, and architecture for PLC systems.
Implement advanced control strategies including PID tuning and alarm management.
Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, IT, and Corporate Engineering.
