Automation (Controls) Engineer-Device Manufacturing

Position Overview

Indy Device Manufacturing (IDM) is responsible for manufacturing medical devices and delivering custom automated assembly equipment for new product launches, capacity expansions, and line extensions at Lilly sites globally. IDM Asset Delivery Automation Engineers focus on the design, delivery, and validation of device assembly equipment, emphasizing automated control and electrical systems. They collaborate with OEMs to design and build custom machines, develop best practices, and integrate SCADA, MES, and automated material systems.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Design, deliver, and validate automated control and electrical systems for device assembly equipment.
  2. Develop user requirements and conduct detailed review sessions with OEMs and project teams.
  3. Coordinate and lead cross-functional engineering teams.
  4. Support process improvements, tool and process validation, and risk mitigation activities.
  5. Document research, develop technical reports, and participate in manufacturing readiness for new devices.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in Industrial Controls.
  • Experience programming and maintaining automated control systems (PLCs, HMIs, vision, robots).
  • Experience with industrial machinery electrical systems.
  • Experience delivering automated equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Medical device experience.
  • SCADA, MES, data collection, or IT experience.
  • Control system expertise with Rockwell, Cognex, and industrial networks.
  • Experience in regulated pharmaceutical environments and high-speed control systems.
Skills
  • High initiative, ownership, and accountability.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and technical writing skills.
  • Organization, problem-solving, and ability to work independently or in teams.
Additional Information

Must be able to travel approximately 25%, with peak times over 50%. Lilly is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, providing accommodations upon request. Compensation ranges from $64,500 to $167,200, with benefits including 401(k), health insurance, and more. Actual salary depends on experience and location.
