Re:Build Optimation seeks an Automation & Controls Engineer Co-op/Intern to support client projects across industries. You will help design control systems, draft schematics, and develop PLC/HMI solutions under guidance from senior engineers.

This onsite role is based in Rochester, NY and/or Rush, NY, for Spring, Summer, and Fall 2027. Ideal candidates are pursuing a BS/MS in Mechatronics or Electrical/Computer Engineering, with strong communication and teamwork skills.

Qualifications

Pursuing BS/MS in Mechatronics, Electrical, or Computer Engineering from an accredited college or university.
Strong written and verbal communication, organization, and time-management skills.
Ability to work independently and collaborate within a project team.
Curiosity, adaptability, and eagerness to learn.
Preferred: Experience with AutoCAD Electrical.
Preferred: Experience with PLC platforms and industrial robotics.
Preferred: Prior co-op/internship or related experience.
Preferred: Familiarity with ISO 9001/CSIA or similar quality systems.
Preferred: Lean, Six Sigma or continuous improvement exposure.
Preferred: GPA ≥ 3.0.

Responsibilities

Support automation projects from requirements gathering through design, programming, fabrication, and troubleshooting.
Develop control system architectures, P&IDs, and instrumentation specifications.
Create electrical drawings and schematics using AutoCAD Electrical.
Develop PLC code and configure HMI applications with guidance from senior engineers.
Create bills of materials and assist with equipment and component selection.
Research and apply relevant electrical codes and standards (NEC, NFPA 70E, UL508A).
Support fabrication, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting activities.
Prepare technical reports, specifications, and project documentation.
Participate in internal and client project meetings and design reviews.
Collaborate with engineers and project managers to plan and execute tasks.
Mentor with a senior engineer to develop technical and professional skills.
