Job summary

City and County of Honolulu is seeking an Automatic Sprinkler System Repairer to perform installation, renovation, maintenance and repair of departmental sprinkler systems in our parks and playgrounds.

Under supervision, the role includes inspections, troubleshooting of electrical components, and maintaining records of project costs and compliance with building codes. Travel by city vehicle is required for on-site service and supervision as needed.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of automatic sprinkler systems, including electrical components and safety procedures.
  • Ability to diagnose, repair, and maintain sprinkler systems.
  • Skilled in using trade tools and equipment.
  • Ability to plan and organize work per sketches, diagrams, and technical instructions.
  • Ability to keep accurate records, prepare reports, and follow oral and written directions.

Responsibilities

  • Repairs, installs and maintains manual and automatic sprinkler systems in the department’s parks and playgrounds, including installation of new automatic and manual sprinkler systems.
  • Performs inspections, cleaning, testing, and servicing of system components to ensure proper operation.
  • Checks clock motors, remote control valves, and electrical current to controllers to ensure proper operation and replaces as required.
  • Troubleshoots systems, including control box and wiring.
  • Reviews work orders and prepares work reports. Keeps and reports cost of projects, records repair costs, checks for conformity and adherence to standards, building codes and regulations.
  • Operates City vehicles to transport equipment and materials and provide maintenance and supervisory support as needed.

Position Information

The Department of Parks and Recreation, Maintenance Support Services Division, is hiring an Automatic Sprinkler System Repairer. Under the supervision of the Lead Automatic Sprinkler System Repairer, this position performs installation, renovation, construction, maintenance and repair of departmental sprinkler systems.

What You Will Do
  • Repairs, installs and maintains manual and automatic sprinkler systems in the department’s parks and playgrounds, including installation of new automatic and manual sprinkler systems.
  • Performs inspections, cleaning, testing, and servicing of system components to ensure proper operation.
  • Checks clock motors, remote control valves, and electrical current to controllers to ensure proper operation and replaces as required.

Special Work Conditions

Experience Requirement

Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to competently perform the journey level skills and duties of this position (i.e., repairing and maintaining electrical and hydraulic automatic ground sprinkler systems).

License Requirement

Valid driver's license (Type 3/automobile), p rior to appointment.
