Job summary

Concord Group Insurance in Maine seeks an Auto Physical Damage Adjuster to investigate, evaluate, and determine loss disposition on property/casualty claims. The role services agents and insureds under general supervision, handling claims via phone, mail, and occasional on-site investigations.

Responsibilities include gathering facts, evaluating coverage and liabilities, negotiating settlements, and maintaining licenses with continuing education as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or direct equivalent experience with property/casualty claims handling.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and react to documents such as insurance policies, procedure manuals, and legal documents.
  • Ability to assemble information, develop opinions, and clearly express decisions using sound reasoning and judgment.
  • Ability to write reports and compose correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate, in both oral and written formats, in a polite, clear, concise and accurate way.
  • Ability to demonstrate good problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to organize assigned work and maintain confidentiality.

Job Description

The Auto Physical Damage Adjuster investigates, evaluates, and determines the appropriate disposition of all types of claims arising out of the Company’s business. This job also provides service to agents, insureds, and others in the course of handling those claims to their conclusion. Work is performed under general supervision.

Responsibilities
  • Assemble facts, determine coverage, evaluate the amount of loss, and analyze legal liability
  • Make payments in accordance with coverage, damage, and liability determination and perform other functions or duties to properly adjust the loss
  • Study insurance policies, endorsements, and forms to develop foundational knowledge of Company insurance products
  • Learn and comply with claim handling procedures
  • Develop skills in claim negotiations and settlements
  • Effectively service needs of agents, insureds, and others
  • Meet with people involved with claims, sometimes outside of our office environment
  • Obtain and maintain appropriate adjuster’s license(s) as required
  • Complete relevant continuing education programs as required
  • Maintain punctual attendance according to an assigned work schedule at a Company approved work location
  • Handle claims activities and investigations by phone, mail, and occasional on-site investigations
  • Use technology-based information for reference, enter information into computer systems and develop specialized skills, including but not limited to property estimating, auto estimating, and use of computer-based programs as tools
  • Work on increasingly complex claims as assigned
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or direct equivalent experience with property/casualty claims handling
  • Ability to read, interpret, and react to documents such as insurance policies, procedure manuals, and legal documents
  • Ability to assemble information, develop opinions, and clearly express decisions using sound reasoning and judgment
  • Ability to write reports and compose correspondence
  • Ability to communicate, in both oral and written formats, in a polite, clear, concise, and accurate way
  • Ability to demonstrate good problem-solving and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to accurately deal with mathematical problems, including geometry (area and volume) and financial areas (such as accuracy in sums, unit costs, and the capacity to read and develop understanding of personal and business finance documents)
  • Ability to effectively deal with a diverse group of individuals and managed varied factual circumstances

Compensation

We are dedicated to fair and competitive total compensation package that supports the wellbeing and success of our associates. In addition to this, we offer other components like bonus opportunities. For this position, the anticipated annualized starting base pay range is: $50,000 - $65,000.
