Job summary

First Chicago Insurance Company is seeking an experienced Litigation Specialist to manage litigated and complex auto liability claims. You will determine coverage, draft rights letters, and lead investigations by gathering statements, police reports, medical bills, photographs, and appraisals.

The role requires strong negotiation and communication skills, plus the ability to work with defense counsel and experts.

Qualifications

• College Degree and / or 5 years of applicable claims adjusting experience.
• Knowledge of legal and medical terminology.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to pass written examinations where required by state statutes to become a licensed claim adjuster.

Responsibilities

• Handle litigation claims following established office procedures.
• Determine coverage and draft reservations of rights letters.
• Secure statements and collect documents (police reports, medicals, photos, appraisals).
• Manage litigation by coordinating with defense counsel and experts.
• Maintain diaries on open files and track claim activity.
• Work with vendors to control costs and maintain service quality.
• Research and interpret case law, statutes, and coverage forms.
• Evaluate use of experts and field investigators as needed.
• Prepare claim evaluations to obtain appropriate settlement authority.
• Establish indemnity and expense reserves.
• Conduct onsite reviews of defense counsel as required.
• Adhere to Department of Insurance regulations for the loss state.
