Fox Automotive in Rochester Hills is seeking an Automotive Dealership Controller to oversee accounting and financial reporting for our Chevrolet, Toyota, and Volkswagen operations across two locations.
Working directly with ownership and the General Managers, the Controller will lead the accounting team, manage the month-end close, oversee cash flow, and maintain accurate financial statements and clean accounting schedules.
We’re looking for a hands-on leader who understands dealership operations, follows through on outstanding issues, and communicates clearly with department managers. The right person will bring structure and accountability to the office while helping the team develop.

Responsibilities
- Lead accounting operations and supervise the office team across both dealership locations.
- Complete month-end closing and submit accurate manufacturer financial statements within required deadlines.
- Manage cash flow, bank reconciliations, floorplan accounting, and intercompany balances.
- Review and reconcile accounting schedules, including contracts in transit, vehicle inventory, receivables, payables, and warranty receivables.
- Ensure expenses, accruals, reserves, and transactions are recorded accurately and in the proper period.
- Oversee payroll accounting and coordinate required tax filings and reporting with outside professionals.
- Maintain internal controls, identify gaps, and work with department managers to correct recurring issues.
- Review financial results with ownership and the General Managers, explaining variances and identifying concerns.
- Establish clear staff responsibilities, provide training, and cross-train employees to maintain coverage.
- Coordinate with outside accountants, lenders, and manufacturer representatives on audits and financial reporting.
Requirements
- At least five years of automotive dealership accounting experience, including two years as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or accounting supervisor with substantial month-end responsibility.
- Demonstrated ability to independently close dealership books and prepare accurate manufacturer financial statements.
- Thorough understanding of dealership accounting schedules, floorplan, inventory, intercompany transactions, and internal controls.
- Experience managing and developing an accounting team and working directly with dealership management.
- Strong reconciliation, analytical, and Excel skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines, investigate discrepancies, and resolve outstanding issues.
- Professional judgment, discretion with confidential information, and clear communication.
- Multi-franchise or multi-location experience preferred.
- Tekion experience preferred, but not required.
