Job summary

Brainerd Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Assistant for a self-contained Autism Spectrum Disorder classroom at Garfield Elementary (High-Needs School). This 7.5-hour-per-day, 173-duty-year position reports to the Building Principal and pays hourly based on the Education Assistant contract ($16.50–$17.15/hour).

The role supports students with IEP goals in various settings, including the resource room, inclusive classrooms, lunch, and bus loading areas.

Qualifications

Experience working with students with physical, cognitive and/or mild behavioral needs.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.
Flexibility based on program and student needs is essential.
Ability to assist students in individual or group settings in various environments.
Handle with Care training must be completed within three months of hire.

Responsibilities

Carry out duties in the student's IEP and adapt goals as directed.
Assist students in resource and inclusive settings, including community or site activities.
Provide specialized instruction/interventions as outlined in the IEP.
Collaborate with teachers to deliver classroom instruction and monitor progress.
Supervise students during lunch, recess, field trips, and bus loading areas.
