Job summary

Brainerd Public Schools in Brainerd, MN is seeking an ATLAS Special Education Assistant to support students with individualized education plans across classrooms and common spaces, including lunchroom, bus loading area and community settings.

The role focuses on assisting transition-age students 18-21, implementing IEP goals, collaborating with teachers, and ensuring safety and confidentiality. We offer a benefits package including medical, vision, dental, life, LTD, PERA, 403b and paid leave.

Qualifications

• Meet highly-qualified requirements for paraprofessional (two-year associate degree, 60 college credits, para-pro or para e-link certification)
• Experience working with students with physical, cognitive and/or mild behavioral needs
• Handle with Care Training – certification required within three months of being hired and maintained during employment.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to be a team member
• Flexibility based on program and student needs
• Assist students in individual or group settings and in community/job coach settings
• Ability to implement therapies and programs as prescribed by IEP

Responsibilities

• Assist 18-21-year-old transition students with employment and independent living skills.
• Carry out the duties and responsibilities outlined in a student’s IEP.
• Supervise and assist students in resource rooms, inclusive settings, or community activities.
• Collaborate with Special Education Teachers and related service providers.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
• Develop effective working relationships with students and staff.
• Follow district policies and report suspected abuse/neglect.
