Job summary

Boston Higashi School in Randolph, MA is seeking a Physical Education & Recreation Specialist to help children and young adults with autism build confidence, fitness, social skills, and independence through movement and structured activities. This full-time role involves leading activities, collaborating with teachers and therapists, and receiving training in Daily Life Therapy.

Prior autism experience is preferred, but training is provided, and a strong active lifestyle is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Recreation, Education, Psychology, Human Services, or related field.
• Experience with autism preferred but training provided.
• Must be able to participate in regular physical activity with students.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Lead physical education, fitness, recreation, and movement-based activities.
• Develop engaging activities based on students' abilities and goals.
• Participate with students in daily physical activity, including jogging, exercise, sports, and recreation.
• Encourage students to develop confidence, teamwork, independence, and healthy habits.
• Modify activities so students with different abilities can participate.
• Support students' social, emotional, behavioral, and physical development through structured activity.
• Collaborate with teachers, residential staff, therapists, psychologists, and other professionals.
• Help students participate in community outings, recreational programs and special events.
• Contribute to student goals and educational programming.
• Receive training in Boston Higashi School's Daily Life Therapy® approach.
