Job summary

Qualifications

Job Description

Do you have a background in physical education, kinesiology, exercise science, recreation, coaching, education, or a related field?

Boston Higashi School is looking for an energetic Physical Education & Recreation Specialist to help children and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) build confidence, physical fitness, social skills, and greater independence through movement and structured activities.

This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys being active, motivating others, and creating engaging experiences for students.

Prior experience working with autism is preferred, but not required. Training is provided.

Schedule

School Year: Monday-Friday, 1:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.

Vacation Program – approximately 8 weeks per year: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:15 p.m.

This position follows a 220-day annual work schedule.

We're looking for someone who is active, dependable, positive, creative, and comfortable being directly involved with students throughout the day.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Degrees in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Recreation, Education, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field are especially relevant
  • Comfortable participating in regular physical activity with students
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Valid driver's license
  • Willingness to learn about autism and Boston Higashi School's educational approach
Preferred
  • Experience working with children or young adults
  • Experience in physical education, recreation, fitness, athletics, coaching, camps, or similar programs
  • Experience working with individuals with autism or developmental disabilities
