Job summary

Capital Area Intermediate Unit is seeking a dedicated paraprofessional to support teachers and students with special needs, assist in instructional activities, and help manage behavior under teacher direction. The role requires caring, confidentiality, and the ability to lift up to 40 lbs as needed.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, and either a Qualified Paraprofessional certification or the willingness to obtain it within the program timelines.

Qualifications

• Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
• Must have the ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
• CPR, First Aid, AED training or willingness to obtain and participate in Safe Crisis Management or restraint procedures.

Responsibilities

• Works with the teacher as a team member in the educational and social development of the assigned student.
• Assists the teacher in developing a positive environment and behavior management.
• Performs instructional activities under the teacher's direction and monitors results.
• Maintains confidentiality per FERPA and CAIU policies.
• Attends trainings and SBAP paperwork, logs, and reports as required.
• Provides coverage and assists in transportation/escort of the student as needed.
