Job summary

Capital Area Intermediate Unit is seeking a paraprofessional to support teachers and students. You will assist with instructional activities, help maintain a positive classroom environment, monitor student progress, and assist with personal care and movement around the building.

Candidates should have a high school diploma (GED accepted), and may provide 48 college credits or an Associates Degree; certification as Qualified Paraprofessional is preferred or willing to obtain it.

Qualifications

• Must have HS diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Experience with special needs population desired.
• Certified as Qualified Paraprofessional or willing to obtain certification.
• Trained in CPR, First Aid, AED and Safe Crisis Management or willing to be trained.
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
• Strong ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• Computer skills including Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Support classroom teacher as part of educational team.
• Assist with student personal care needs and safe transport within building.
• Maintain confidentiality under FERPA.
• Prepare materials and displays; assist with clerical duties.
• Monitor recess and supervise lunch as needed.
