Job summary

UNLV Health is seeking an Authorization and Referral Specialist to manage timely referrals, treatment authorizations, scheduling, and follow-up with patients and payers. The role requires attention to accuracy and the ability to handle a demanding workload.

Candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States, bilingual in English/Spanish, with at least two years in medical front-office tasks and familiarity with health plans and coding basics.

Qualifications

• Two years in the medical field to include front office, appointment scheduling and referral authorization.
• Bilingual English/Spanish.
• Knowledge of health plans, eligibility and guidelines.
• Demonstrated ability to read, write and speak English.
• Demonstrated ability to use a computer.
• Minimum typing speed of 35 wpm.
• Experience with the Seriously Mentally Ill population preferred.
• Knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT billing codes a plus.

Responsibilities

• Process referrals and requests for treatment authorizations in a timely manner.
• Submit referrals and authorizations to payers and track status.
• Schedule appointments and follow up on outstanding referrals.
• Maintain accurate records and assist patients, staff and payers as needed.

Job description

The Authorization and Referral Specialist is responsible for the timely processing, submitting, scheduling and follow up of referrals and request for treatment authorizations as required by payer. The Authorization and Referral Specialist tracks existing referrals by program and payer. The Authorization and Referral Specialist position requires excellent customer service skills with patients, employees, and the public. Individual must also be flexible, organized and must be able to manage a demanding workload with accuracy.
