ABOUT AUSTIN REGIONAL CLINIC: (Repeated, can be omitted for conciseness)

PURPOSE

Under supervision of the Centralized Authorizations and Referrals Supervisor, responsible for obtaining authorizations and coordinating patient referrals to specialists. Acts as a resource for patients and staff regarding authorization and referral questions, ensuring compliance, confidentiality, and alignment with organizational mission.

Essential Functions

  1. Assist with responsibilities of Referral Coordinator I as directed.
  2. Maintain current knowledge of insurance authorization and referral requirements.
  3. Obtain timely authorizations from insurance carriers per department guidelines.
  4. Serve as a resource for authorization and referral questions for patients and staff.
  5. Communicate authorization/referral information to patients and specialists efficiently.
  6. Act as liaison between Primary Care and Specialty offices.
  7. Review charts to determine appropriate clinical information for insurance submissions.
  8. Create, modify, and sign referral orders within protocols.
  9. Coordinate transmission of medical records to specialists.
  10. Document authorization/referral info accurately in Epic.
  11. Inform physicians of patient compliance and any delays in authorization.
  12. Communicate updates and issues to patients and leadership.
  13. Promote teamwork across departments.
  14. Adhere to policies including OSHA, HIPAA, and Code of Conduct.
  15. Maintain regular attendance.
  16. Follow core competencies outlined by the company.
  17. Work holiday shifts as required.

Other Duties

  1. Assist in training team members.
  2. Participate in organizational development activities.
  3. Adjust work schedule as needed to meet deadlines.
  4. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent; 6+ months healthcare office experience.
  • Preferred: Experience with insurance authorizations, high-volume customer service, or contact centers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of medical insurance, terminology, and coding.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and computer skills.
  • Ability to analyze problems, manage conflicts, and prioritize tasks.
  • Professional demeanor and ability to follow instructions.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm. Work from home after orientation.
