Job Description

General Summary:

The Audiology Clinical Assistant works with the Audiologists in the comprehensive care of patients with potential and diagnosed hearing disorders. Under supervision of the licensed Audiologist, the clinical assistant participates in patient care, performs hearing device maintenance and maintains the environment of care. The position actively supports the hospital’s and the department’s Continuous Quality Improvement and customer service goals, individually and as an effective team member.

Essential Job Functions:

• Under the supervision of a licensed Audiologist, participates in patient care including:

  • Prepare patient materials, equipment, and room based on appointment type
  • Assist with hearing testing in two tester audiologic exams
  • Assist with fitting of hearing devices and accessories
  • Assist with intervention programs (e.g., hearing loss prevention)
  • Perform nondiagnostic otoscopy
  • Conduct audiologic testing without clinical interpretation (e.g., hearing screening, pure-tone air conduction thresholds, newborn hearing screening, immittance screening, otoacoustic emission screening)
  • Document patient encounters and DME information
  • Assist with educating patients, families, and caregivers on use and care of hearing devices

• Under the supervision of a licensed Audiologist, performs hearing device maintenance including:

  • Preset hearing aids, using initial fitting of the manufacturer software prior to a patient appointment
  • Restore or verify previous patient settings of hearing devices
  • Perform electroacoustic analysis of hearing devices
  • Perform listening checks and visual inspection of hearing devices and accessories
  • Perform troubleshooting and minor repairs of hearing devices, earmolds, and accessories
  • Perform minor modifications to earmolds, custom hearing devices, and custom products
  • Clean hearing devices, earmolds, and accessories
  • Send hearing devices and accessories for repair

• Maintains the audiology clinic environment of care including:

  • Assist with clerical duties (e.g., stocking of materials, recordkeeping, scheduling)
  • Verify the function and safety of the equipment routinely
  • Perform infection control
  • Maintain inventory of supplies
  • Communicate with hearing device manufacturers/suppliers
  • Order hearing devices, earmolds, and accessories, tracking as assigned

• Completes scanning of documents to EPIC and sends written communication to parents as needed.
• Participates in team meetings.
• Updates own knowledge base through continuing education, attendance at in-services and reading of literature.
• Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.
• Other job functions as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree preferred; High School Diploma required.
• Hold an American Speech and Hearing Association audiology assistants certification (C-AA) or be in process of applying for certification.
• Prior experience working in a Rehab Services setting preferred.
• Ability to operate a personal computer and standard office equipment. Proficient with Microsoft applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel required.
• Ability to follow verbal and written directives with detail.
• Certification in CPR from the American Heart Association by completion of the BLS AED Heartsaver Course within 90 days of initial hire date.

Pay Range

$19.50-$30.23 Hourly
