Job summary

The Memoir Agency is seeking an Audio Visual Technician for a seasonal engagement at Leu Gardens in Orlando, FL. The role covers daily show prep, technical activation, and nightly shutdown of AV elements, with an on-site location for the Run of Show period from mid-November to early January.

Additional Install and Dismantle periods run from mid-October to mid-November and again through late January, offering roughly 25 hours per week and extended hours during peak periods.

Qualifications

• 1+ year of experience setting up and maintaining AV equipment.
• Working knowledge of AV signal flow across audio, lighting, and video.
• Familiarity with DMX and networked show technology.

Job description

The Audio Visual Technician is responsible for daily show preparation including audio, power, effects machines, lighting, and activation setup, as well as the nightly shutdown of those technical elements during Dazzling Nights™, hosted at Leu Gardens in Orlando, FL.

This is a SEASONAL/TEMPORARY position with an expected start date on November 10th for the duration of the show dates through January 3rd.

Key Responsibilities

Run of Show Period (Mid-November to Early-January)

• Responsible for checking on and maintaining all tech related equipment throughout their shift
• Provides first-line troubleshooting of technical issues, usually in regards to power or signal flow, resolving what they can in the field and escalating to the On-Site Tech Manager as needed
• Maintains clean, safe, and organized cable runs, connections, and equipment positions across all activations
• Helps promote event safety by monitoring attendees for signs of disruptive behavior, like excessive intoxication, potential environmental hazards (tripping) and escalating issues to management as necessary
• Responsible for the daily opening and closing procedures relevant to their area

Install and Dismantle Periods (Mid-October to Mid-November; Early-Mid January)

Serves as Audio Crew, Site Lighting Crew, or Show Control Systems Crew, as available and qualified

Audio Crew: responsible to install all audio site-wide, including both active and passive speaker systems. This includes…

• Run, dress, and protect signal and power cabling for audio systems across the site, labeling runs so that systems can be traced and serviced quickly
• Assist the Audio Lead in setting levels and optimizing each system for the specific area it is in
• Help manage sound bleed between neighboring activations, adjusting speaker placement and aim so coverage stays consistent across the guest path
• Assist in the first round of audio troubleshooting during commissioning, confirming every speaker has power and signal before final sign-off

Site Lighting Crew: responsible to install atmospheric lighting fixtures that illuminate venue landscape features and structural exteriors. This includes…

• Installing ancillary safety lighting as required to ensure BOH spaces and emergency egress pathways are sufficiently lit
• Participating in nighttime site walks, placing and adjusting fixtures to correct dark spots, trip hazards, and unlit pathways
• Run, dress, and protect power and data cabling for site lighting, keeping runs clear of guest pathways
• Setcolors for LED fixtures under the direction of the lead, and aims fixtures to match the creative intent for each area

Show Control Systems Crew: responsible to install show systems and programmed environmental activations. This includes…

• Setting up the physical connections between control racks, programmed fixtures, and identified power sources so systems are ready for commissioning
• Interpret and implement planned patch lists to ensure each system behaves as intended
• Assist in the first round of troubleshooting, confirming every fixture has both power and data before final commissioning
• Install effects machines including fog, bubble, and snow machines, and confirms placement and output with the lead
• Label, dress, and protect all data and power cabling to Memoir standards so systems can be serviced quickly during the run of show

Required Qualifications & Experience:

• 1+ years of experience setting up and maintaining audio/visual equipment Working knowledge of AV signal flow across audio, lighting, and video systems
• Familiarity with DMX and networked show technology is strongly preferred
• Ability to complete physically demanding tasks, such as standing and/or walking for long periods of time
• Ability to work outside in various weather conditions (heat, rain, cold temperatures)
• Ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs. Reasonable accommodations will be made to allow differently-abled individuals to perform the essential functions of the job.

• Must be willing and able to step into other roles on the event site after an appropriate amount of training, including ticket scanning, parking, and other general event staffing roles

Work Environment & Schedule

• Seasonal/Temporary role for a minimum commitment of 8 weeks (November 9th – January 3rd); additional hours available beginning October 19th and continuing until January 15th
• Approximately 25 hours per week with additional weekly hours during Install and Dismantle periods
• Evening, weekend, and extended on-site commitments are expected during installation, rehearsals, event operations and dismantle.
• Work will occur primarily at event location consisting of outdoor site environments, including active construction or production settings.

Compensation & Benefits

• Starting Rate of Pay $22.00-25.00 per hour
