Job summary

State of Ohio through the Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) seeks an Attorney 3 to handle complex settlements and legal proceedings related to workers' compensation. This full-time position is based in Columbus, OH, with hours 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Flex-time may apply and work primarily on-site at an Ohio facility.

Required is Ohio Bar admission, 2+ years of workers' compensation experience, and strong negotiation skills. Competitive benefits are offered by the State of Ohio.

Qualifications

  • Admission to Ohio Bar; 2 yrs as licensed attorney in workers' compensation law.
  • 6 mos. training or 6 mos. experience in supervisory principles & negotiations.
  • Must be able to provide own transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs, and coordinates non-judicial settlements in assigned territory.
  • Develops settlement strategies to maximize savings for BWC.
  • Reviews settlement filings and prepares briefs for settlements.
  • Represents BWC administrator at legal proceedings when settlements cannot be agreed.
  • Reviews complaints and researches current BWC legislation; drafts related legislation.
  • Attends Board meetings, takes minutes, and assists with Board operations.
