Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Bureau of Hearings Appeals (Western Region) seeks an Attorney Examiner in Pittsburgh to conduct hearings, review information, and prepare decisions impartially. You will work with DHS colleagues to ensure fair, well-reasoned outcomes and uphold statewide appeals processes.

The role requires a JD, PA bar admission, and at least two years of professional legal experience including one year of trial work; knowledge of regulations; telework options after probation;

Qualifications

• Two years of professional legal work including one year of trial work.
• Juris Doctor degree from ABA-accredited law school.
• Current license to practice law in Pennsylvania and admission in good standing.

Responsibilities

• Hearing Management: Conduct hearings by examining witnesses, clarifying issues, and ruling on motions.
• Decision Preparation: Review evidence, prepare adjudications, and complete required documentation.
• Legal Research: Stay current on laws, regulations, and policies to support accurate case decisions.
• Case Oversight: Track and manage cases to ensure timely processing and compliance with requirements.
• Procedural Guidance: Provide direction to legal staff and assist with pre‑hearing conferences and formal appeals.
• Record Review: Examine appeal requests for jurisdiction and completeness and prepare related orders.

Education
