Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia seeks an Attorney Examiner within the Department of Human Services. You will conduct administrative hearings, apply legal standards, and prepare clear decisions that support fair handling of appeals in the Eastern Region.

Responsibilities include hearing management, case evaluation, legal research, case tracking, and guiding staff on appeal procedures. The position offers full-time 37.5 hours weekly, with telework optional after probation and training.

Qualifications

• Two years of professional legal work including one year of trial work.
• Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Certification of current license and active admission to the PA Bar.

Responsibilities

• Hearing Management: conduct hearings, administer oaths, examine witnesses, rule on motions.
• Case Evaluation: prepare adjudications, review records, document findings.
• Legal Research: review statutes, case law, regulations; communicate updates to staff.
• Case Tracking: monitor cases to meet timelines and procedures.
• Staff Guidance: direct legal assistants and ALJs on appeal procedures.
