Job summary

Career Legal in Los Angeles is seeking an experienced Bankruptcy Associate to join its Bankruptcy & Restructuring practice. The ideal candidate has 3+ years of bankruptcy, creditors’ rights or insolvency experience and is admitted to the California Bar in good standing.

You will work closely with senior attorneys on complex Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 matters, handling filings, motions, and negotiations while developing case strategy in a collaborative team setting.

Qualifications

Job description

We are currently representing an established Los Angeles law firm seeking an experienced Bankruptcy Associate to join its Bankruptcy & Restructuring practice.

This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with 3+ years of bankruptcy, creditors’ rights and/or insolvency experience who is looking to work on sophisticated matters within a collaborative team. The position will primarily focus on representing secured and unsecured creditors across Chapter 11 reorganizations and Chapter 7 liquidations.

The Role

You will work closely with senior attorneys and partners across a broad range of bankruptcy and restructuring matters, including:

• Representing secured and unsecured creditors in bankruptcy proceedings
• Handling contested matters and adversary proceedings
• Preparing proofs of claim, motions, objections and other bankruptcy filings
• Advising clients on creditors’ rights, restructuring and insolvency matters
• Supporting negotiations involving settlements, loan agreements and distressed assets
• Managing discovery and bankruptcy litigation
• Appearing at court hearings and handling motions practice
• Conducting legal research and developing case strategy

About You

• 3+ years’ relevant experience
• Admitted to the California Bar and in good standing
• A strong understanding of Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 proceedings
• Experience with bankruptcy litigation, contested matters and/or adversary proceedings
• Is a confident legal writer, researcher and advocate
• Can effectively manage multiple matters and competing priorities
• Enjoys working collaboratively as part of a team

Experience within a large law firm or bankruptcy boutique, financial analysis, distressed asset valuation, commercial finance or related litigation would be particularly beneficial.

Associates are also eligible for year-end compensation based on performance and hours, including additional payments for hours above the firm's initial 1,800-hour threshold, alongside potential discretionary bonuses.
