Job description

On Call Counsel is seeking fully REMOTE litigation attorneys to work for a prestigious government agency. Contract attorneys must be barred and in good standing in any state with 2+ years of litigation experience. The position is expected to start in mid to late October, with a duration of one year and the possibility of extension.

Responsibilities:

1. Prepare for and/or try complex cases remotely in front of impartial Hearing Officers.
2. Negotiate and implement the settlement of special education claims.
3. Prepare and argue difficult cases and appeals in administrative tribunals.
4. Review, revise, and approve agreements prepared by other attorneys.
5. Draft memoranda seeking fiscal settlement authority.
6. Analyze the relative strength of impartial hearing cases.
7. Review internal settlement recommendations.
8. Gather evidence and assist in researching issues.
9. Appear at pre-hearing conferences and review administrative decisions.

Additional Requirements:

• Admitted and in good standing in any state.
• Efficient legal research skills.
• Professionalism, including providing a week's notice if leaving the assignment.
• Computer literacy, troubleshooting skills, data entry into Excel, adequate Wi-Fi bandwidth, familiarity with Microsoft Teams and Outlook.
• Manage a large caseload, up to 100-200 cases.

Work hours are M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time, totaling 40 hours/week (no OT). References are required after the initial interview.

Salary:

• $39/hr for candidates with 1-7 years of experience.
• $41/hr for candidates with 7+ years of experience.
