Job summary

Lynker is seeking a Physical Scientist for Atmospheric Wind Data Assimilation to support NOAA's NWS in College Park, MD. The role involves developing, testing, and evaluating wind data assimilation techniques using aircraft winds, AMVs, infrared, microwave, GNSS-RO, and lidar data.

The candidate will work in a hybrid schedule at NCWCP, with potential remote consideration for the right person, and collaborate on research transitioning to operations within the Unified Forecast System.

Qualifications

• Background in atmospheric science and meteorological satellite data analysis.
• Experience with wind data assimilation and AMVs.
• Proficiency in UNIX environments and scripting.

Responsibilities

• Develop and enhance techniques for wind data assimilation (aircraft winds, AMVs).
• Prepare components for assimilation of wind observations from future satellites and lidar.
• Improve quality control and observation error specs, incl. AI/ML approaches.
• Design and execute impact assessments to aid transition to operations.
