Job summary

Saginaw Township Community Schools is seeking an Athletics Grounds Custodian to maintain athletic facilities and grounds, ensuring a safe, clean and welcoming environment for students and spectators.

The full-time, day shift position requires a high school diploma (or equivalent) and experience with groundskeeping equipment such as mowers, trimmers and blowers. Pay ranges $15.81–$17.34 per hour.

Qualifications

Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Athletics Grounds Custodian. This full-time position is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of athletic facilities and grounds. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, a passion for sports, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of athletic fields, courts, and surrounding areas to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for athletes and spectators.
  • Monitor and maintain equipment and tools used for groundskeeping, reporting any malfunctions or needed repairs.
  • Assist in the preparation and setup of athletic events, including field marking, goal placement, and equipment arrangement.
  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities to identify maintenance needs and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Manage waste disposal and recycling efforts to promote environmental sustainability on the grounds.
  • Collaborate with athletic staff and coaches to address specific needs related to events and training sessions.
  • Maintain records of maintenance activities, supplies used, and any incidents that occur on the grounds.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines while performing duties.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development to enhance skills and knowledge in grounds maintenance.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in horticulture, landscaping, or a related field is a plus.
  • Previous experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or custodial work preferred.
  • Knowledge of turf management, plant care, and general maintenance practices.
  • Ability to operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment, such as lawn mowers, trimmers, and blowers.
  • Strong physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor, including lifting heavy objects and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with team members and other departments.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to operate vehicles as needed for grounds maintenance tasks.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required for athletic events and maintenance schedules.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Indoor and outdoor work environment. Seasonal heat and cold or adverse weather conditions. Moderate exposure to fumes, dust, odors, oil/grease and gases. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. HOURS/PAY
  • 8 hours per day(260work days/year, year-round employment)
  • Primarily day shift (6:30a - 3:00p)
  • $15.81- $17.34 per hour based on experience.
  • Medical Insurance, employee contribution 12-14% cost depending on single, two person, or family, BCBSM PPO, no annual deductible, $20 office visit, Rx $10, $20, $50
  • Dental and vision benefits available (Employees new to the district pay 10.0% of cost)
  • $45,000 Life and Long Term Disability Insurance provided
