Position Information
The Athletics Academic Counselor and Tutorial Coordinator is responsible for conducting an academicsupport program for student-athletes in designated sports while promoting an environment of academicexcellence and fostering student success and retention. The incumbent monitors and enhances theopportunity for progress towards a degree, graduation, and continuing eligibility in accordance with UCR,Big West Conference, and NCAA regulations. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for overseeing thetutoring program, including hiring, ongoing training, and supervision of tutorial student staff. The full salary range for the Athletics Academic Counselor and Tutorial Coordinator is $64,050.00 - $112,140.00 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $72,000 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.
Requirements
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Required Master's degree. Preferred
Experience Requirements
4 - 7 years of related experience. Required Minimum of 2 years of experience working directly with student athletes. Preferred
Special Conditions
Shift Work (hours outside standard Mon-Fri 8AM-5PM work hours) Required Some nights and weekend hours required. Required Travel Outside of Normal Business Hours Required
Minimum Requirements
Demonstrated knowledge of the theories and practice of counseling, learning, human and career development. Knowledge in how to enhance students' intellectual and personal growth and development, including critical thinking, effective communication, self-appraisal, self-esteem, clarification of values, appropriate career choices, and leadership. Knowledge of the methodologies used to enhance student achievement, such as collaborative teaching/learning models, strategies for effective counseling and peer mentoring, small group facilitation and training, coaching, mentoring, and advocacy. Knowledge of trends and issues facing low-income and first-generation college, underrepresented, disadvantaged, physically challenged, and under prepared students in higher education. Knowledge and experience in analyzing complex situations and identifying solutions for problem-solving; skills and experience in developing and administering programs designed to meet the diverse needs of students. Knowledge and experience in researching, compiling and analyzing data, and generating reports. Knowledge of research methodologies and research designs. Knowledge of and experience in conflict management and intervention strategies. Knowledge of federal, state, and local requirements to provide for access, health, confidentiality, and safety; legal and ethical issues governing the delivery of counseling services. Knowledge of personal growth and development areas, including critical thinking, effective communication, self-appraisal, self-esteem, clarification of values, appropriate career choices, and leadership. Strong commitment to working with under-represented student populations and the ability to work successfully with students of diverse backgrounds. Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations, especially in regards to Academic Progress Program (APP) and the Academic Progress Rate (APR).
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of the University of California degree system and the ability to read and decipher academic degree audits.
